lyrics

Every man is his own island adrift on a sea of dreams
Sending back and forth to the others his vessels full of schemes
Fearing all the storms around him he builds his tidal walls
In the end, he guards his coastline and sets up his own laws
Nothing underneath the grey sky can scale his stubborn pride
Gradually he stands abandoned for to stem the swelling tide
O but hold on just a minute he has not been left alone
For there is a God who loves him the One who sits upon the throne
He sent His bridge of mercy to span the empty time
And offer an escape route to join with love divine
O how we owe Him honor O how we owe Him praise
O how we owe Him obedience and to walk in all His ways
Gracious is the God of heaven who gives each man a choice
He calls His flock around Him and His people know His voice
No one will be left in darkness who does not want to be
Thanks be to God for His goodness thanks be to God for His peace
Without Him we are hopeless and lacking liberty
There is a new sun rising a new day we shall see
No more to be an island the waves to wash away
But settled on the mainland in the kingdom of the saved
Gracious is the God of heaven who gives each man a choice
He calls His flock around Him and His people know his voice
No one will be left in darkness who does not want to be
Thanks be to God for His goodness thanks be to God for His peace
